Flavor Buffet

It’s been a week! And there’s not much I’m in the mood to do other than relax, rest up, and enjoy a couple days off to do as I please. I hope you have a great weekend; and check out all of the goodies below while you’re at it. ;)

The yearly Piglet competition (March Madness-like competition putting the great cookbooks of 2018 against one another) is underway over at Food52 and I’m loving reading all of the cookbook matchups. One of the great reviews in the early rounds? This one featuring All About Cake - a book that’s on my shelf!

Strength and confidence should be the main motivations when it comes to exercise, I think. And eating what’s delicious with an eye toward balance. And yet in this wellness-centric world these days, the influencers pushing such terms and suggestions aren’t necessarily living that life; their bodies don’t exactly match up to the “balanced” lifestyle they preach. This piece explains all of this a tad more poetically than I have which is why you definitely need to read it.

All-pink restaurants?! Apparently it’s a trend that is sweeping the industry, but not everyone is such a fan. I love pink as an accent and do think it conjures a positive, happy tone. However, when it’s all pink and nothing else, I’m a smidge skeptical. Why distract with so much pink? Send over the food!

Always on the lookout for a new treat to bake on the weekends, these Breakfast Blondies sound like a delightful, fairly healthy option. A brownie I can eat before 9am? Sounds good!

As soon as I read the description of Fatteh Hummus I knew it would be something I’d need in my life. And the more I read about it, the more I needed to eat it ASAP. Just use GF pita chips. ;)

It’s been a very green week on our dinner table, on purpose, and I’m still amassing salad recipes for weeks to come. This Northern Spy Kale Salad sounds simple and straightforward, but also scrumptious for a weeknight. Stay tuned...

Dine

In the mood for Italian this weekend? I’m always in the mood for it and one of our favorites to meet our cravings is Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse. Great food, great staff, and their GF menu is just fantastic. I’m barely able to resist ordering just one dish!

Seth and I used to live across from Lone Star Taco Bar in Allston and let me tell you, it was dangerous. Inexpensive tacos that are so scrumptious you can barely finish one before ordering four more. And the cocktails are an impeccable match for the food - taco night heaven. Plus, they offer brunch! I’ve never left this spot without a big grin and feeling a bit too full. ;)

Speaking of being too full, Myers and Chang is one of my all-time favorite Boston restaurants, located in the South End, and will forever be my go-to for awesome, gluten free Asian cuisine. Their menu is not entirely GF, but they do a certain set of dishes gluten free for those that need it (their protocol is terrific). The food is so good I can barely explain it and all I can say is that make sure you have a reservation. Or hang by the bar for a while.... We use their cookbook constantly.

When it comes to our preferred cooking oil, we use California Olive Ranch Olive Oil for everything. Scrambled eggs, crisping chickpeas, sautéeing veggies, it’s our go-to olive oil for well, every day.

From workouts on the treadmill to running around in casual sneakers, I’m loving the Lululemon ultra-thin run socks. Say what you wish about expensive socks (🤦‍♀️), but they’re comfy, soft, and never wear out.

Are you familiar with Maldon Sea Salt? We purchase it in large tubs on Amazon. 🙂 Good thing, too, because we use it constantly in our kitchen (as much as that olive oil). Breakfast to lunch, cookies to cakes, this salt really is the best for all flaky-salt needs.

Enjoy!
