Style Roundup: My Favorite Pieces for Spring

Spring in New England is a fickle time of year. The flowers eventually start to bloom, everything slowly turns green, and the weather…sometimes follows suit. In a single day I can wear (at various times) a sweatshirt, a t-shirt, sandals, fleece, and a light jacket. And that’s multiple times each week! Spring in New England is a special time of year because the winter has finally come to an end. Except that we’ve had snow in April on more than one occasion. Surprises at every turn!

Since the weather around here can change even more quickly than my opinion on, well, anything, I’ve decided to share a small collection of the pieces I’m putting on most often during these less-than-predictable weeks of the new season. One day last weekend was sunny, gorgeous, and close to 80 degrees (AKA hot); the other was rainy, cloudy, and barely 50 (cold, layers required). See what I mean? Variety. Is. Necessary.

Now, without further ado, my current set of go-to pieces and shoes that I’m wearing most often right now. Items are linked as available.

I love to talk shop(ping) so please feel free to reach out about sizing or anything else related to wearing comfy, practical clothes this spring. I’m here to help!

Jackets

Able The Merly Jacket - a new-to-me brand that makes a very stylish and comfy denim jacket. I have a feeling I’m going to be wearing this one for years to come. The color, fit (true to size, not oversized), and distressing are all excellent.

Everlane The Drape Trench - I didn’t own a tan trench coat and jumped on this one when Everlane featured it in an email. I love that it’s lightweight, oversized, and pretty much goes with everything. An easy way to “dress up” an otherwise casual look.

Tory Sport Sherpa Fleece Vest - I’ve been wearing this vest for my morning walks and it’s the best layer over a cotton sweater or fleece on the still-chilly mornings. I love the contrasting navy details and the zipper-pockets.

Tops

Everlane The Organic Cotton Crew - A fantastic white t-shirt that works so well for layering under sweaters and sweatshirts, but isn’t baggy and looks nice (for a t-shirt) on its own. The price is great so stock up on a few colors for the spring/summer.

Tory Sport Raglan French Terry Hoodie - I wear this stylish basic on long walks when there’s a chill in the air or on cooler weekends for errands. Tory Sport sweatshirts run big - the classic fit is fairly standard, but the “oversized” ones really do run very big.

J.Crew Classic-Fit Chambray Shirt - A classic year-round, I tend to wear mine more in the warmer months, without a jacket, for a comfy yet slightly-polished look. Chambray is a soft fabric and washes well (I’ve had mine for a couple years). I like wearing chambray with black jeans, white jeans, and cotton shorts.

Loft Ribbed Henley Sweater - I saw this on an influencer I follow on IG and finally ordered one because it looked so comfy and “easy” for everyday. Now, I have it in three colors and wear them multiple times each week. It’s easy to wear with jeans of all fits and is an effortless top that looks put-together, yet casual. I find the style to run slightly big.

DENIM

I’ll get to shorts when it gets closer to summer…

Mother Denim - I’ve loved this denim for years and despite the length never being quite perfect (cropped and ankle lengths are still long on me), I find the fit and style to be great. Lately, I’ve been loving The Tomcat and The Trickster Ankle . The brand has grown to include tops, sweatshirts, jackets, and much more. It’s all fun, stylish, and well-fitting casual wear.

Madewell Petite Denim - Everyone should know by now that Madewell denim is great and has fits and sizes for everyone. I’m grateful that the Petite length is just about perfect for me and I’m usually the same size regardless of style (just be sure to check out how much stretch is in a particular style before selecting a size). For me, I love the Vintage Perfect, the Slim Crop Boyjean, and the 10’’ High-Rise Skinny Jean.

SHOES

Converse Chuck 70 Low-Top Sneaker - It had been a minute since I regularly wore Converse, but suddenly they seem to be everywhere as a casual, chic, go-with-everything sneaker. This 70s style is slightly, in my opinion, more muted than the classic style which is why I ordered this one instead. Not going to lie; I have this low-top sneaker in three colors (black, parchment, tan). I wear them all with everything. Excellent sneaker with a lot of effortless look for a pretty low price.

Vince Perforated Leather Blair Sneaker - I order a new pair of these almost every year because I wear them so much. Once broken-in, this slip-on style is so ridiculously soft and easy to wear with everything. I wear them like slippers because they’re just that comfy.

Jenni Kayne Mule - I got my first pair of these last year as a gift from Seth and I never looked back. I don’t usually go for backless-shoes, but I couldn’t resist. They are as comfortable as advertised and elevate even the most dressed-down, casual outfit. Barely any break-in time required, these mules are chic and worth the investment (discount codes are offered frequently).

Enjoy!
