Flavor Buffet: 5/28/2021

Hello! Happy Friday. And welcome to the start of your long weekend! MDW, the unofficial start to summer, has arrived and I couldn’t be happier about it. This has been a long month and an extra day off will be just delightful.

While the weather around here looks less-than-ideal for outdoor activities and al fresco dining, we’re going to make the most of it. Sure there will be periods of rain, but who cares? It’s a long weekend and I’m thrilled for an extended amount of time to relax and do as I please!

To that effect, there will be a fresh newsletter on Sunday, but we’re taking the weekend off from Sunday at Six. Tune in the following week for the return of new episodes (and more guests!). As always, you can check out the IGTV section of my Instagram profile for all past episodes.

So, how about the Buffet? Today I am bringing you good reads, plenty of recipes, and so many sales to peruse to make sure your Memorial Day Weekend is as chill as can be. Finally, if you haven’t yet, please go get vaccinated! It’s the quickest way for us all to get back to our normal activities and gatherings.

I hope you have a relaxing, fun, and safe weekend.

Enjoy!

Read

Everyone should read this by Katie Sturino. Body positivity all the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Friends Reunion on HBO Max. Have you seen it?

Anyone else out there still watching This is Us? I loved the season finale (and associated surprises) earlier this week. I can’t believe the sixth season, starting in the fall, will be the last.

The new, post-pandemic way to look at hosting dinner parties. I can’t wait to have friends over for dinner!

Once again, I’m sharing the Epicurious Interactive Cocktail Cabinet. Perfect for creating your own concoctions during the weekend.

Enjoyed this review of Sorel sandals that look high-fashion, but are super comfy and practical (read: my style exactly).

Now’s the time to start grilling all of the greens. Say “see ya later” to boring lettuce!

Cook

Ready-for-summer recipes? Right this way…

Corn and Sausage Pasta has my name written all over it.

Watermelon and Snap Pea Salad could be the best combo for the season.

Pesto-ish Risotto is right up my alley. Risotto is a year-round delight.

Duck Carnitas Tacos may need to be made in the very near future (read: in June).

A Spicy Serrano Pineapple Margarita will be the best during a hot afternoon.

50/50 Mushroom Beef Burgers will be made in the next few days. I just know it.

It may finally be time to make fried spring rolls at home. Yum!

And who wouldn’t love a grilled ribeye with soy butter glaze? Wowza.

Dine

Pending rain storms washing away outdoor plans, here are a few spots I’d recommend for an excellent, al fresco meal this weekend:

Twist Bakery Cafe for an omelette, pancakes, a sandwich, or a big slice of cake. It’s all so good.

Lone Star Taco Bar for carnitas tacos, fish tacos, and the best cocktails around.

The Stones Common House and Kitchen for burgers, salads, and the best french fries.

Woodman’s of Essex for fried seafood galore! I’m partial to the clams and calamari, but the chicken tenders are great, too. ;)

Shop

There are more sales (at so many of my favorite shops) than I can count going on through the weekend, but here are a handful that jumped out at me. Each store’s sale is advertised right on the front page of their site - can’t miss it!
