Flavor Buffet: 5/20/2022

Good morning! Happy Friday. It’s going to be a Wicked Hot Weekend here in Boston (temp could reach 95) so my plan is to wear shorts, stay hydrated, and find the shade whenever possible. I hope wherever you live is a bit more comfortable!

In other news, the Buffet is back this week with more articles, more restaurants, and some shopping for your perusal. Have a great one!

Caught my attention…

This new series, Underrated, over at Bon Appetit, made me smile instantly as the majority of the topics discussed are ones I’ve thought about frequently myself. Who wouldn’t enjoy chips before bed?

If you need me, I’ll be reading every article in “Junk Food, Redefined” and making the recipes, too. My favorite snacks are rarely the healthiest. ;)

Well, I cried during the penultimate episode of This is Us and teared up while reading the episode recap. Who’s planning to watch the series finale next week? Yeesh, they do extremely moving and so very sad quite well.

One of my plans for the summer is to make Queso Fundido and enjoy it on the deck with friends and cocktails.

Highly recommend Ali Slagle’s new (debut) cookbook, I Dream of Dinner. It’s fabulous! And most recipes are gluten free (or easily adjusted to be so).

Laughed out loud at these DIY-distressed sneakers that are a budget-friendly version of the very-destroyed-on-purpose pair from Balenciaga.

One of my favorite perfect-for-warm-weather chopped salads (chickpeas! feta! avocado!), made it onto our dinner table this week (photo above). Per usual, the recipe is by Lidey Heuck, who worked with Ina Garten for many years before going out on her own writing recipes for NYT Cooking and beyond. Her recipes are fantastic!

Consider going out…

JT Farnham’s in Essex, MA is undeniably one of the best fried-clam destinations on the North Shore and I strongly recommend visiting this weekend. Almost the entire menu can be prepared GF (their fried seafood batter is gluten free!), but please keep in mind it’s a cash-only spot. Arrive prepared…and hungry! My favorites are fried clams, fried oysters, and calamari. ;) Parking is fairly limited and the line gets long quickly. I’d recommend an early lunch for premium parking and grabbing a picnic table with a view.

Crave in Beverly (and now Salem) MA is a great place for GF breakfast sandwiches (the GF bread is unreal), but even more exciting is the selection of gluten free cupcakes! OMG. They are so, so good. Be sure to order them online early in the day as they sellout daily.

West Side Creamery in Acton, MA is a recent discovery (I saw it on the local show, Chronicle) which we frequented last summer because the ice cream is awesome and worth the trip! Many flavors are GF and I am keeping my fingers crossed for the GF Oreo flavor to come back to the menu…

Could add to cart…

J.Crew is having (yet another) pre-summer sale, which means it’s a great time to stock up on this Vintage Cotton Crewneck which is great for layering, or worn on its own, all summer long.

Considering the Tory Short Dress from Dudley Stephens’s new summer collection. Dudley has way more than fleece these days.

For anyone looking for non-denim shorts, I’m a fan of the 3 1/2 Inch Every Day Short from Vineyard Vines. I’ve been wearing this style for several summers and they have lasted incredibly well!

Planning to wear easy-breezy linen often in the coming months, which will include this Wyatt Shirt in Linen from Alex Mill.

Finally, if you’re someone who enjoys candles throughout the house (hi, hello, nice to meet you), then I’d strongly recommend Hotel Lobby Candle which makes your home have the scent of - you guessed it - a hotel lobby. Quite nice! PS: I got the new Spa scent for our gym-ish spare bedroom. :)

Have a great weekend! Relax, unwind, and enjoy.

Mollie
