Flavor Buffet: 8/13/2021

Fresh flowers from the yard!

Fresh flowers from the yard!

Hello! Happy Friday.

We’re amidst a heat wave so I’d suggest pouring yourself a massive glass of water before you dive into today’s Buffet. Seriously, it’s sweltering outside and the humidity isn’t helping anyone (or my hair). Despite the heat, we’ve got lots to be joyful about because the sun is shining (pretend it’s a cool breeze?) and the weekend has arrived. Hooray!

Also, my birthday is next week! Yes, I’m a fan of celebrating and yes, I may be talking about the past and upcoming year a bit more than usual as the big day approaches. You only start the second half of your 30s once so… bear with me. Time flies and being an adult isn’t always the easiest, but I’m welcoming this next section of the best decade with open arms.

For now, let’s get to the Buffet. I hope you find a cool spot to relax, read, and unwind. Thank you for being here!

READ

I had completely forgotten Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s new season would be its last (oh no!). Take a look at some of the show’s best episodes and reminisce with me, won’t you? I watched all of it during 2020 and my goodness I laughed so, so much.

A favorite column of mine is ‘How I Get It Done” on The Cut and this week’s chat with the Surf Lodge founder and owner Jayma Cardoso is terrific.

This heat wave is rough. I’ve been “testing” (using) a few of natural deodorants for a while now and have found some good ones, and some…not so good ones. Here’s a great roundup of all-natural products to help you deodorize during these wicked hot summer days.

Should we all be considering this Thai vegetable peeler? How convenient!

Why yes, I do feel a level of guilt when our home is messy. How’d you know?

You probably know by now what a fan I am of Jenni Kayne clothing and shoes (the furniture is awesome as well), but my goodness the designer’s own home is just as incredible (I’m not surprised).

COOK

What do we think about buttermilk ice cream?

Debating if I like peaches enough to attempt this perfect-for-now peach pie. It looks so good!

I’ll never say no to a stir-fry; it’s just a fact. Caramelized Pork and Cucumber Stir-Fry will be on our table for sure next week.

Chile-braised Chicken Tostadas sound right for late-August dining as well.

Do yourself a favor and make chicken parmesan meatballs in the near future. This is one of the most-delicious recipes; too good!

Cocktails on the deck? Yes, please. Here are 27 vodka cocktail recipes beyond just the trusty Bloody Mary (a favorite).

DINE

Before summer disappears (it happens eventually), there are a few places I’d love to visit again for some of my favorite hot-weather meals eaten outdoors.

Woodman’s of Essex for fried clams, fried shrimp, and one of the best sunset views.

JT Farnham’s for (more) fried clams, fried oysters, onion rings, and the other incredible view in Essex.

Note: Can you tell I’m in the mood for fried seafood?

Lone Star Taco Bar for my favorite carnitas tacos, grilled fish tacos, stellar cocktails, and a cozy, hip outdoor dining space.

Crave Beverly for a few of their incredible GF cupcakes (and a breakfast sandwich while I’m there).

Tempo Kitchen for their truffle fries and the delicious tuna and salmon tartare.

SHOP

Shoutout to the excellent Dry Bar hair clips - they’re just so handy! I use them daily.

I’ve been using this Thomas Peter Roth hydrating moisturizer all summer and it’s great for these super hot days.

Good news! The Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother is as good as advertised at minimizing frizz and fluffy hair volume.

Someday I would like this very fancy chair in our house. Someday.

This leather dish would be good in so many spots.

Does anyone else like this J.Crew denim dress?

No shame in admitting I love to shop for jeans; I think I need to order this Madewell pair for fall.

Have a great weekend and enjoy!

Mollie
