Flavor Buffet 9/16/2022

Hello and happy Friday!

The gorgeous, so-close-to-fall-feeling weekend is just about here (light layers, yes please!) so my plan is for plenty of time outdoors as well as great food, of course. And just for fun, we’ll be toasting the one-year anniversary of me getting my driver’s license! Hooray! The process to get my license wasn’t easy and omg I am so glad it’s done. I even got my own car right after I passed! To celebrate, maybe I’ll drive somewhere new…

I hope you have a great one and enjoy!

Did you catch the Emmy Awards on Monday night? I actually thought it was a pretty good show with so many great winners! I’m psyched for Abbott Elementary (ABC) and thrilled for White Lotus (HBO).

In case you’re not impressed with the cocktail offerings (and their prices) right now…you’re not the only one.

New York Fashion Week, whether you’re interested or not, had a momentous week of fabulous looks on and off the runway. (I love NYFW.)

A cool breeze flowing into the kitchen means one thing: fall recipes are back! Rejoice!

While somewhat skeptical of an all-black kitchen, I do love the overall look and feel to this Detroit home. Minimalist and chic!

Cooler days also bring the constant need for high-quality (read: it actually works) lip balm. Luckily, we can all use this list as a reference.

Newsflash: stripes are a year-round staple. It’s not actually news, but you cannot go wrong wearing stripes.

WATCH that

Admittedly, I don’t have much new to say here except that I think everyone is waiting for the return of all the shows! Following the Emmys, I cannot wait for the drama, humor, and entertainment to return in the form of my favorite TV series.

On the flip side, I know I am supposed to say that I love books and how one can get so “into” them. I have to say that’s not me. Sorry! But not sorry. I love television, always have, and I love getting “into” shows that (much like a book) can transport the viewer into another world. I’m a TV fan through and through. Books are not bad! But my personal preference tends to be TV - especially since the caliber and variety of shows available now is just incredible.

COOK tonight (or whenever)

Cookbooks, online recipes, re-imagined versions of favorite dishes, it’s all on the table (pun intended) when it comes time for dinner around here. What have we been cooking this week? Well, let me share that with you here!

PS: Seth is the chef! I find the recipes, he makes them happen. #teamwork for sure in this household. ;)

By Jenny Rosenstrach.

Cheese, beans, Panko breadcrumbs, and tomatoes. Super straightforward and delicious. Another great recipe from this book we turn to each week to make sure #meatless meals make it to the table.

By Molly Baz.

Every single recipe we’ve made so far from this book has been absolutely awesome. This week we made Peanutty Pork Noodles with Crunchy Celery (again) and it was just as terrific as the first time. Molly’s recipes are bright, bold, and very cool (read: she is super creative and has great taste in flavor combinations).

By Ali Slagle.

Our go-to title lately due to the plethora of incredible recipes that deliver fast, flavorful meals that are especially perfect for weeknight dining. This dish featured lamb, cucumbers, and goat cheese all wrapped up in an awesome GF flatbread. Superb!

Harissa and Feta Chicken Meatballs

A staple dinner because it’s so good, so easy, and never fails to impress. Even someone who doesn’t enjoy cooking, like me (oops), would be able to handle making this dish. Love it. We’ve been serving the meatballs, tomatoes, and chickpeas over greens these days for an added oomph of color, but you don’t have to.

The original recipe is from Bon Appetit in case you’re curious. :)

Let’s shop

If you follow me on Instagram (please do! I share a lot there every day in stories) then you’ll know that I have been working away at some major closet cleaning/re-organizing. I went a little overboard in 2020 and am now coming out of some retail ridiculousness.

Let’s be honest: I didn’t love shopping online until I had no other choice and then went wild (it’s too easy to use ApplePay). I still do a fair amount of shopping online (free shipping wins), but I actually prefer going to stores, browsing, and debating styles in person. Way easier and far more enjoyable!

What am I reaching for this fall that’s already in my closet? Let me show you. Style or sizing questions? Send them my way!

Vuori Alpine Sherpa Fleece Jacket - I love this cozy jacket that is super soft and great for layering over a long-sleeve tee or lightweight sweater.

Freda Salvador Eda D’Orsay Sneaker - No socks required for these ultra-comfortable (and slip-on possible) sneakers. They take time to break in, but I’ve been reaching for this pair more and more lately to pair with jeans. This brand is wonderful and it’s hard to just stop at one style…

AYR The Slushy Long-Sleeve - I’ve been raving about this brand all summer (their button-down shirts are superb), but now I’m here to encourage this new tee design, 100% cotton, which is incredibly comfy and perfectly cut to wear with high-waist denim (read: it’s not too long). I’m partial to the stripes, but may need to get a solid black as well.

Alex Mill Button-Back Crewneck Sweater - It’s almost sweater season and this style is my go-to for the many not-hot months ahead. I love the chunky knit style, the semi-slouch fit, and the button-back detail. It’s so versatile! Again, it’s such a closet staple you may end up with a few in your closet. ;)

Thank you for reading!
