Flavor Buffet: 7/23/2021

Hello! Happy Friday. It’s a beautiful, sunny day here (a few in a row actually) and that has improved my mood tremendously. Turns out sunshine and low humidity is the secret to having fun outdoors in the summer! Who knew? Ha. In all seriousness, the weather finally improving has been a gift. I’m so glad to be able to take my sunny flower photos and enjoy some outdoor office time each day. But let’s get to the real reason you’re here: the Buffet!

This week I’m sharing a host of interesting articles, so many scrumptious recipes, and products I’m considering as I get back on that home decor train. What a ride! I hope you’re able to find some time to read the articles, consider the recipes, and get caught up with my latest dining guide for Maine. Enjoy!

Hooray for Maine and their new recycling legislation. This is good news and positive progress.

Did you know that the job “Flavorist” exists? It’s a small group of people with this very-specific job which has a very important place in this food-with-flavor-focused world.

Still haven’t gotten the vaccine? Really? It’s definitely time.

In lighter news, I found this guide to the best high-waisted jeans very helpful.

The Tokyo Olympics begin now! I know it’s a mess and there’s a lot happening, but I love to watch it all.

I completely agree that four-six people is the best (ideal) number for a group dinner at a restaurant. What do you think?

Maybe because it’s summer, or because we started watching The White Lotus (watch it on HBO), but I’ve grown increasingly interested in Hawai’i. And now, I am very interested in the food of this beautiful state thanks to Chef Sheldon Simeon and his new cookbook which focuses on the islands. Ordering it now!

COOK

As soon as local corn is available you bet I’m making this Summer Corn Rice on repeat. Just make sure to use GF soy sauce!

I’m very tempted by this Crispy Pan-Fried Shrimp with Cabbage Slaw. I’ll just swap out the farro for brown rice or another GF grain.

If I didn’t love a weeknight stir-fry enough already, now there’s a Chicken and Corn Stir-fry which we need to make ASAP.

Seafood is on my mind so this Cod with Scallion-Sesame Butter sounds superb.

Who’s coming over for grilled Hot Honey Wings? Yum!

I’m very into appetizers so preparing this Cantaloupe with Spicy Bacon-Cashew Crumble will totally happen next time we have guests for dinner.

Did you hear? My brand-new Bar Bites Beyond guide is now available! Travel with us for 24 hours in Ogunquit, Maine where we ate everything delicious (read: so much seafood), walked and walked and walked, and discovered a new favorite dessert. It was a great quick trip and is a must-visit for anyone looking for a brief getaway this summer.

Stay tuned for an updated Bar Bites Local guide where I’ll share our top recommendations for going out in and around Boston. Coming soon!

SHOP

After over-analyzing the purchase for far too long, I ordered the Eva “waterproof” Birkenstock sandals so I’ll be prepared next time we’re near a beach or any body of water. I’ll report back!

I’ve been living in these very reasonably priced J.Crew bike shorts for all of my long walks, some workouts, and even to just watch TV. A must-buy if you ask me.

All-Clad is having a Factory Sale (find the link within this article) and you should definitely check it out. Our favorite pans are from All-Clad and they truly last.

I love all of these stylish water pitchers for al fresco evenings (or days) on the deck.

I have begun to search for a medium-sized storage cabinet for our gym/office to store linens, clothes, and miscellaneous items that need to be folded. I’m loving this one, but like this smaller option as well. Hmmm!

Also on the home front, I’m thinking about rugs again - yippee! I really like this District Loom runner for the upstairs hallway. Lots to think about as I jump back on the home decor decision train. :)

Have a great weekend and enjoy!
