Poll of the Day - December 2017

Each day on our Insta Stories, we pose a question, usually fun and/or silly, to gauge your interest on a food-focused question. However, sometimes we pose a non-food poll! The topic changes daily!

Here are the results from each Poll of the Day with the most current listed first. Enjoy!

Boston was downright frigid for New Year’s Eve, but that didn’t stop us! I know most of you chose to stay in, and no, we were not running around outside, but we did celebrate 2018’s arrival by having lunch out at the Oak Long Bar and Kitchen, a yearly tradition, and then got together with friends for a party that night to ring in 2018 all together! Layer up, and go out! We had a great time welcoming in the new year and hope you did too! 😊

Ha! Well, if you’ve been following along, you know that we did make another batch of this dough, and actually baked the cookies on new year’s day! Perhaps my best batch yet, I was very happy to see that you all were encouraging of my end-of-Year baking endeavor. And thankfully, this mindset is going to continue into 2018! Stay tuned...!

The results of this poll made me very happy! Glad to know that other homes with pets have this exact same problem as our cat always tries to steal some of our dinner! While she’s extremely partial to tomato sauce, she undeniably tries to taste every dinner, making sure to leave it alone if she has no interest (which is rare). So, fellow pet owners, rejoice! Maybe we should have one big dinner party for the pets, with people food? It would be quite the sight! :)

This poll really stuck since for dinner tonight we made this exact dish - with shrimp!! Results were close for a while, but the seafood crowd pulled ahead in the end, sealing shrimp’s win for this delicious curry dinner. I don’t know about your tastes these days, but after the holidays I have tried to steer clear of those specific flavors in favor of spicier foods and other cuisines. Namely, Thai food! Scrumptious and savory with a hint of sweet from coconut milk and dark brown sugar. So good! :)

A close one! Decided on this poll while I sipped my favorite Extra-hot lattè (this time with 2% milk, usually skim), I was not entirely sure which side would win the majority. And with good reason! Seems like we are fairly split in this world of coffee sweetening, but those who keep it “au natural,” squeaked by with the win! I do love a sweet coffee beverage here and there, and I tend to equate them to candy due to the sky-high sweetness level, but most of the time I like my coffee black, and my lattes extra hot. Plain and simple. :)

No surprise here! Christmas cookies are a clear standout winner, and yes, I made some delicious ones this year. However, at the time of this poll, I was having a few gluten free cupcakes - minis Baked By Melissa - so I thought I’d test the crowd. I definitely think cookies are the holiday favorite, of course, but on the offchance you’re in the mood for a new, small treat, then Baked By Melissa make some great gluten free cupcakes that are one-bite size and perfect for a late night holiday snack. :)

Merry Christmas, all! I guess this isn’t really a gingerbread crowd! And while I do love a great chocolate chip cookie, my mom made amazing GF gingerbread cookies for the holidays! So good! I’ll need to share a picture soon... But in the mean time, it seems like you guys are really psyched for the traditional chocolate chip! Don’t worry, the batch I made turned out deliciously. ;)

Happy Holidays, everyone! We had a fairly good number choose cold and crispy, but like I imagined, hot and cheesy dip was the clear winner. I love hot, cheesy, gooey dip, especially at the holidays, and ones with artichokes or another veggie baked in make them even better. Cold dips have their place, but I find them more attractive as we get into the warmer months, and full-on summer, when outdoor gatherings practically scream for them. But these days, when it’s cold out, I just love a delicious, hot, cheesy dip. :)

I think this crowd leans toward the delicious since the majority voted for cheese here. Can’t blame you! While there is a time and place for veggies and hummus, I do think I dart for a cheese platter upon arrival at most parties. But once I’ve enjoyed as much Brie and blue as I can stand, it’s time for the cut up peppers and celery! :) Happy Holidays!

Given the time of year, I somewhat expected sweet to win! However, it was a tough race with salty and sweet being fairly equal up until the end, when salty clearly pulled ahead and won with a solid victory count. My take? I definitely sit firmly on the salty side, but my sweet tooth shows up pretty unexpectedly, and at random times! That’s why I love cookies with sea salt on top and salted caramels. A nice little blend! Because honestly, who could really pick just one? Especially around the holidays.

You know, I’m surprised! As someone pretty staunchly on the “always arugula” side, I kind of expected more of you to join me there. However! That’s clearly not the case and you guys love a good mixed greens bowl. I do like those, especially for a great Caesar salad, but I’ve really been enjoying the simplicity of arugula as a base lately and find it far more flavorful if you don’t have much else to add to the salad. To each their own, as you say! And in this case, a mix seems to be more fun! :)

You know, I was kind of surprised by these results! And for me, I’m leaning more toward Parmesan, but that’s just because I prefer a somewhat stronger flavor to my cheese. Don’t get me wrong - I love mozzarella in all forms - but I love freshly grated Parmesan so much, especially on hot pasta, pizza, or any other dish really! So, I suppose the bottom line is... I love both! There is a time for each and while this was a fairly close “race,” the mozzarella group pulled ahead to win the poll. But, at the end of the day, does it really matter? Picking between two great cheeses is harder for me than picking where to go for dinner (just slightly).  :)

Yasssss, my friends! I knew you would all come through on this one. Exactly one (!) person who chose to vote opted for raw cauliflower, no judgement, while the rest of you lovely folks joined my side. The roasted, toasted, delicious cauliflower side. It’s so good!! And so easy to make, which is why it’s on repeat this winter. Secret tip (learned through a recipe): season your cauliflower with olive oil, salt, pepper, and cumin seeds , before popping in the oven. You’re welcome!  (Tip I learned from Melissa Clark’s book). If you try it this way, let me know. We’d love to hear about your newfound favorite veggie-roasting method. :)

Look what we have here, friends! A pizza topping tie! And I couldn’t agree more! I have to say that I could barely pick a side on this one so I’m not surprised everyone who voted was equally split. Maybe that’s why pizzas are so large and round; so you can always have both of your toppings 50/50, veggies and meat! And then everyone gets what they want. Thanks for your input, I think it’s time to order a pizza. 😬🍕✌️

So glad to see the results on this one! We are major truffle fry fans, and are so glad so many of you are as well! I think they are a true treat and when we find a place that offers them safely gluten free, I can hardly resist! The Bristol Restaurant and Bar at The Four Seasons Hotel in Boston is my favorite source for this year-round “delicacy.” But let’s be clear: regular fries are terrific as well, and I’ll never turn them down. :)

Love the balance (or lack there of) on this one! And am so glad to see so many of you are firmly in the pro-olive camp. I do understand that some aren’t big fans, as I wasn’t for a long time, but as soon as I tried the bright green castelvetrano ones during our honeymoon, I was sold! So glad that they are on the menu at The Oak Bar, where we often have them along with one of their fantastic cocktails. Cheers!

Well, this was a nail-biter! The pro-hot and no-hot sides were almost even for most of this “race,” and a few hours before cutoff they were tied! But, as I somewhat suspected, the extra-hot-taco fans ruled the day. I wish there were 3 choices on these surveys because option 3 would always say (for my benefit): Depends on my mood! ;)

Once again, there’s really no contest, although I was really hoping more than 31% of you would be interested in the cashew butter balls! I certainly am and that’s why I will be making them. However, have no fear Chocolate chip cookie fans, I am going to bake both!! This coming weekend, we are going to do the chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies, and then for Christmas I am going to try my luck at those cashew butter balls. See? Everyone wins! But I was quite impressed with the numbers flying high for the peanut butter; you guys love it! Let’s get baking. :)

Well, there you have it. The classic wine and cheese won you all over, and I’d like to say it was a battle, but the cheese grabbed everyone from the beginning. But I must admit, the wine and cookie combo is not so bad, as evidenced in this photo. Too tired to find the extra cheese after Thanksgiving clean up, I grabbed one of my homemade GF cookies and a glass of red, and called it a night! For those wo participated, thank you! And maybe try some wine with your next cookie. ;)

Was there any surprise here? Pizza won in a landslide and while I appreciate the thought of having salad while watching sports, it just doesn’t seem to fit my own sports-watching mindset. Kudos to those who chose greens! There are many other options here, too: besides pizza, who wouldn’t love to settle in for a game with a gorgeous platter of nachos? Extra guacamole, please! We also love a great artichoke dip, especially that one we featured a while ago with four kinds of cheese! Amazing! :)

Seems like we have a crowd favorite of fish tacos! We really love them too so you’ll just need to check in nightly and see if those tacos won this week!

Happy to know our audience is longing for salt, just like the rest of us. We know sweets are more traditional this time of year, but I’ve never met a salty treat I never wanted to try (any time of year).

Well, I forgot to save the results, but an overwhelmingly high percentage of you say greens are a must on your dinner plate, especially around the holidays. We couldn’t agree more! A vegetable lands on our table 98% of the time. ;)

At the time of this post, I was firmly in the “not yet,” column, but we finally designed and ordered  our cards! Hoping they arrive soon so that they can go in the mail far before the 25th...!
